Weight Lifting Will Not Make You Bulky

The most common comment I hear when talking to women about strength training is “I do not want to get bulky”. The insinuation is that Yoga and Pilates will give you long, lean muscles and weight training makes you thick.

Strength training builds muscle and can significantly increase fat metabolism. If you are looking for lean, strength training is the best way to get there. Five pounds of muscle takes up 20% less space than five pounds of fat. Having more muscle will make you a smaller and leaner person.
